...and other random things that make me happy [Jul. 10th, 2009|10:52 pm]

10 YEARS AGO TODAY, I MET DEAN CAIN!!!<3

And "Lois & Clark" was a correct response on Jeopardy tonight! In the past 2 years I've seen a Teri Hatcher clue, and a Dean Cain clue that mentioned L&C, but not one where L&C itself was the correct response. The funny thing is -- as soon as the category came up tonight, I was thinking "Hey, what if...?" And yep-- they did it! The guy who answered the L&C one went on to win the game. Go... uh, whatever your name is! You rock! He'll back in in a few weeks, after the kiddie tournament is over. I will continue to root for him then.

In other news, I've taken to reading fanfic again. I especially like the fics by M.L. Thompson. She comes up with some really interesting plots. Ideas I never would've thought of. And her writing keeps me engaged. I was reading one the other week, and it struck me that I can kind of tell -- well, educatedly GUESS, anyway -- when the author first got into L&C. Or maybe just which season is their favorite. Or I don't know. What I'm trying to say is that there's this feeling I get when reading certain fanfics that the author was either A or B:

A) Someone who watched the show from the beginning and watched the events play out in their natural course. These writers seem to tend to stick closer to the canon of the show. If they're writing a fic set in the first season, their Jimmy is the Michael Landes version. You'll see more of inspector Henderson, Cat, and/or Lucy.

B) Someone who came into it late, maybe 3rd season, and watched the earlier seasons at some point afterward, like in syndication or on DVD. With them, it's like the stuff that happened in seasons 1 or 2 can be changed on a whim; canon is sometimes glossed over or ignored entirely. Dr. Klein'll show up in season 1 and 2 fics. Some writers just LOVE Dr. Klein. He is known as Bernie.

Really, these aren't only two types of L&C fic writers out there. Some people are probably a mix. Or other things entirely. But I've seen these 2 types a lot. Of course, how am I to know when anyone became a fan? I can only guess. But I like to guess!

And clearly, I need a life.

Those Darn 5th Season Dreams... [Jun. 22nd, 2008|11:31 pm]
[Tags|]

I had the dream again the other night. The one where I find out there's going to be a fifth season of Lois & Clark, and it's airing rightthissecond, but something's wrong with my VCR/TV! Oh no!

Wow. Weird. I used to have this dream a lot back in the late 90's. I desperately wanted L&C to return. For several years after it was canceled, I held onto hope that it would. Maybe not in series form, but at least as a TV-movie. And yes, when the show was on the air, I was extremely obsessive about taping it, making sure nobody went near the VCR, etc. So the dream made sense. But it was so silly to stress about it! I had so many FOLC Friends who would've gladly sent me a copy of the episode, had the miracle of a season 5 actually occurred. Still, the dream was annoying and I had it often. And I'd wake up feeling sad that L&C hadn't really come back.

It's been ages since I had it, and I have no idea why I had it the other night. I haven't watched the show in a few weeks. Hello, random. Although, I had to laugh because this time around, the dream had something new: Me desperate searching iTunes, hoping to find the episode available on there. It wasn't. So much for technological advances being problem-solvers!

P.S. Someone should really put L&C eps on iTunes.

Double Jeopardy [Mar. 8th, 2008|10:49 pm]
On Friday night's episode of Jeopardy there was a Superman category, and the very first clue asked something like "He was drafted to the Buffalo Bills in 1988; later, he played Superman on Lois & Clark."

Mwahaha.

Hiatus [Jan. 12th, 2008|11:37 pm]
Wow. So it's been almost eight month since I posted here. That? is pathetic. The truth is, I've been busy. And I've had what you might call a "DVD player situation." A few months ago, I moved my DVD player into the family room so the whole family could enjoy DVDs together. I figured that since I have both a desktop and a laptop computer up here -- each equipped with a DVD player -- I'd be fine. Yeah, sure. Except I like to watch DVDs in bed, and that's nigh impossible with the desktop. And the laptop is 5 years old, which in computer years = Old man with cane and/or electric scooter, and it takes 15 minutes to boot up. Then, even when you get it going, it shuts off for no apparent reason. Or it overheats. Oh yeah, and the battery's been dead for 3 years and the cord has a short in it. Fun times all around!

The thing is, though, this "DVD situation" shouldn't matter as far as L&C viewing is concerned, because I do have all the eps on tape. I did, after all, spend a good portion of the 90's buying VHSes with my allowance and hitting the "record" button a lot. 87 episodes preserved on plastic rectangular prisms o' fun, labeled with magic markers along the lines of "Lois & Clark Tape A" (House of Luthor through Church of Metropolis), "Lois & Clark Tape B", etc., all the way up through "Lois & Clark Tape O" (the final episodes, taped in SP mode by that point.) Not to mention all the tapes I got of first-season episodes, dubbed from tapes around the world. Really, I'm set.

So maybe I should blame Netflix. Every week they send me movies and shows that keep me busy. I've now seen every episode of Quantum Leap. I've been reminiscing with The Cosby Show and Full House. I've been introduced to Extras and Robin Hood. A new disc comes, I watch it, I send it back, rinse, repeat. My L&C tapes/DVDs will always be there, why rush to watch them?

Two weeks ago, I got together with two friends. We actually met 10 years ago thanks to L&C. So it seemed appropriate that we'd watch L&C while hanging out. We watched Season's Greedings, Honeymoon In Metropolis, and about half of All Shook Up before we had to call it a night. And it's nice to know that no matter how much time passes between L&C episode watching, my love for it doesn't decrease at all. I can still quote, laugh, make observations, and -- later, while lying in bed trying to fall asleep, I can think about Dean Cain.

Er... I mean THE SHOW. I meant to say "think about the show." Didn't I say "think about the show"?

Well, and Dean Cain.

Back in the day... [May. 27th, 2007|08:51 pm]
I've been thinking about L&C a lot lately. I thought about it earlier. I had picked up our newspaper's TV insert, and as I flipped to Sunday to see what was on tonight I had a sudden flashback to doing the exact same thing circa 1995. Naturally I'd go straight to Sunday night to make sure L&C was on. Oftentimes I would just kind of gaze at the title, smile because I loved the show so much, and then start counting down til 8 o'clock.

As I type this it's 8:53. About this time, L&C would be recovering from an exciting climax. Conversations would be had. Jokes would be made. Post-season 2, this time of the night would often involve kissing.

I miss my show.

Globes & Green Glowing Rocks [Mar. 30th, 2007|05:37 pm]
I love L&C. The more I watch it, the more I love it. It drags me out of bad moods and makes me giggle. It doesn't matter that I've seen these episodes 100 times; sometimes it's like I'm watching them for the first time.

But enough with the cliches.

I haven't blogged about L&C since December, which is sort of sad. I've watched episodes since then, but now I don't remember what I was going to say about them. So I'll talk about "The Founding" instead. I love that episode. It introduced us to Jack, who is adorable. My four-episode boy. If I was going to write a L&C/Quantum Leap crossover fanfic, I'd make it where Sam leaps into one of L&C people circa "House of Luthor" and has to change history by getting Jack to stay in Metropolis and come back for season 2. Yes.

Anyway, the last time I watched "The Foundling", I had a moment of realization. You know how exciting those can be. Before, I could never understand why Clark could see/hear what Lex was seeing/hearing when he (Lex) touched the globe, yet Clark had NOT heard/seen the images when Jack touched it (both in his little shack and in the alleyway.) Inconsistency! But then, suddenly, it all made sense. If the globe was attuned to Clark, and since Clark had never met/made contact with Jack prior to that, there was no connection, so he could not see the images. But Clark had made contact with Lex, several times, so there was a connection and that's why Clark could see it when Lex used the globe.

It's interesting, though, because if Clark had made this connection, could he have known/assumed that whoever bought the globe from Jack was an acquaintance? Eh, well... even if he had thought that, it wouldn't have really helped him find out it was Lex, because as Superman, Clark had met thousands of people, and he'd probably met a fair share of them as Clark too. The globe-stealer could have been anyone. But anyone rich enough to have an underground lair of priceless art? Okay, well no matter. I just love it when things don't make sense forever and then they suddenly do.

Another thing I like about "The Foundling" is the fact that the questions Clark voices to his parents about things he'd like to learn about his heritage/self were later either answered or addressed on the show. (Ex: "Brutally Youth" answered the aging question.)

And then there's Lex's threat at the end, to find Superman's true identity and expose him and hurt everyone close to him. Sinister man that he is. It's one of those things that was never explored too often on the show -- the idea that someone could discover Superman's true identity not through just a simple mistake (of him not being careful -- ie "Smart Kids") or thanks to some all-knowing source ("And The Answer Is") or by outright stalking/tracking him ("Top Copy"), but by looking into the fact that if Superman's an alien, he had a ship... find the ship -- or at least where it landed, get a list of kids who grew up in the area where the ship crashed, and do some reasoning. Oh hey, one of those kids was Clark Kent, who works in Metropolis and is friends with Lois Lane! HMMMM...! Jason Trask came close to figuring it out on his own, but he couldn't make the connection with that last step. He got as far as Smallville, even knew the date of Superman's arrival, yet HE had to be faced with Clark using Superpowers before he was like "Ohhh! I get it!"

But that's why I love this show; everyone was so blissfully clueless.

And considering that at least some people (besides Trask) knew to go to Smallville to hunt for Kryptonite (Bill Church Jr.'s guys in "Individual Responsibilty"), not to mention the fact that the original chunk of Kryptonite that was sent off for testing -- and later used by Lex Luthor, Arianna Carlin, Rollie Vale, Lex Luthor, Nigel, and Jace Mazic -- came from Smallville, AND the fact that in "The Green Green Glow Of Home," in the DP article where Lois names Kryptonite, she talks about what happened IN Smallville, which anyone who gets the DP could have read, you'd have thought someone would put two and two together via that angle.

Okay, I think I need to go watch the show now, this post has put me in the mood.

"Excellent! I just mugged you!" [Dec. 14th, 2006|10:57 pm]
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
TEMPUS FUGITIVE

The night Resurrection first aired, there was a promo for Tempus Fugitive afterwards -- Clark Kent's secret revealed! "Hello! Duh! Clark Kent IS Superman!" I remember that night because we had friends over for the evening -- daughters of my parents' friends, actually. They were 9, 7, and 4. I don't remember if the youngest one cared much about L&C, but I know the older two did. We watched many episodes together in those days (I had taped so many!) Anyway, when the TF promo aired, we all went absolutely nuts with excitement. A revelation? This was BIG.

I was so excited about the episode that I even snuck a peek at the description in that week's TV Guide, while waiting in the checkout line at the grocery store. One of my parents, I can't remember which, was like "It'll probably all turn out to be a dream or something." No, I thought... no way.

Dang, my parents were right.

Okay, so it wasn't "all a dream," but pretty damn close.

The episode aired, and I LOVED it. Time travel is right up my alley, and I was big on babies in those days, so Clark as a baby was just totally adorable and awesome.

It was with some trepidation that I set out to rewatch TF last week. It's not like I hadn't seen it in years, heck, I think I just watched it last year. But I always worry that I will find certain episodes cornier than I used to. When you're a kid, you can believe things a whole lot easier than you can when you're an adult. So sometimes things I used to love? Now I'm just "OMG that's so stupid." I never want that to happen with L&C episodes, but it happens with a lot of things, so I always wonder and worry.

I am happy to report that not only did I not find TF corny, but I found that I love it as much as I ever did. The only part that makes me cringe nowdays is when Lois goes "I think we're talking to your" and Clark goes "Great... great-grandparents." Because what a thing to say out loud, in FRONT OF the woman you're talking about. Tact, anyone? Aw well, I still love them.

I went through a phase where I was very pissed off at H.G. Wells. I felt he shouldn't have operated the time machine to allow Tempus to go back in time (from 1995 to 1966/1866), even with the gun pointing at him he should not have done that because of all the trouble it caused. While watching it this time, I was like der, Tempus is pointing the gun at Lois, too. Lois dying would have been as bad as Superman dying, so H.G. was doing the right thing. I STILL think it was dumb of him to leave Tempus in that asylum, though, cuz we all know how THAT turned out.

I was 17 before I got that "his was just plain bigger" joke. Random.

This is one of the episodes I used to quote often. I adored Tempus. There was a time when I could pretty much recite the whole episode verbatim, but not anymore.

So, in conclusion, it's still a great episode. So what if it's fantastical? This is a show about a guy who flies. You can't buy into one thing and not the other.

Okay, I still don't buy into Kathy Kinney in Ghosts but that's a whole nother LJ post.

TARGET: JIMMY OLSEN

I will never be able to put an exclaimation point after "Olsen" like they do on the DVD box. It looks so silly. 11 years in the fandom online and I never saw that exclamation point. Is it on the script or something? I still hate it.

Random piece of trivia -- originally the "Jimmy-centric" episode in season 2 was going to revolve around Jimmy and his father. I have an interview with Justin Whalin from 1995 where he is talking about this. Well, what happened? Yes, that episode was made in season 3, but why did they decide to scrap it for season 2 and do TJO instead? The world may never know.

So this isn't my favorite episode in terms of A-plot, but there is a lot to like about it. Clark is running off all the time, Lois is exasperated, and Dan Scardino is rocky road, Clark's chocolate, and chocolate is delicious. Meanwhile, Jimmy has YET ANOTHER "one-episode romantic interest," this time in the form of Sarah. Sarah used to annoy me, but now I really like her. She was cute and smart. I wish they'd used her again, but I know the actress was filming a series pilot about this time (1995's short-lived "The Pursuit of Happiness.") Ever since Cat left, I thought the show could use another recurring girl character. Lois and Martha, that was it. There was Ellen, but if you actually count the number of episodes she was in, you get 5, I think. Not many. Hell, Bobby Bigmouth had THAT many.

I remember hearing about an interview Justin Whalin did circa 1995, where he mentioned that he thinks fans finally started to accept him after TJO, because of how he got to knock Dan Scardino off the stairs. Was this on the S2 DVDs? For the life of me I can't remember what interview that was from or where I heard it, but it makes me laugh. I accepted Justin by the third episode of season 2, but I guess some fans really were not fond of Justin when he took Michael Landes's place.

I still find myself irked at Clark for ditching Lois on their stakeout to go save an old lady. Well, maybe not so much the old lady, but come on -- standing there while graffiti artists cleaned a wall? This makes me believe that Clark really did have some kind of fear of intimacy, though he never would admit it. It's like in WHALTTA when he uses "Superman" to avoid Lois. It's kind of cute, but I still want to thwap him. Get back in the jeep, boy!

Perry's fatherly talk to Clark in the DP just makes me squee. Clark is so cute there, trying to explain that he doesn't want to act like a dipshit to get Lois's attention, and acknowledging that there IS a little something that's keeping him from pursuing Lois more fiercely... the whole secret identity thing. I'm sure he was probably scared as hell thinking of having to eventually tell Lois his secret (mostly scared of her reaction!) so, in relation to the previous paragraph, this too could be why Clark DID run out on her so many times when it wasn't really necessary. Sure you could argue that Clark is just unable to NOT respond to a cry for help (see: ditching Lois at the restaurant in WWW to deal with a car accident) because of his innate goodness or overwhelming sense of civic responsibility, but he CAN ignore it. He can if he really tries. This was dealt with in several third season episodes -- Clark's determination to help everyone in trouble, realizing its impossible. Clark, you created Superman so you could HAVE a life, not so you could lose it.

Lots to think about.

Next up, Bruce Campbell!:)

Lucky Leon & Resurrection. What a pair. [Dec. 4th, 2006|06:03 pm]
Okay... so I would just like to say DEPRESSING MUCH.

It all starts out just fine. Lucky Leon is a very cute episode with a few blushes and a few giggles and donuts and Mayson doing her usual "I wanna jump Clark" routine while Lois rolls her eyes and tries to conceal her claws. L&C go out on a date, a real date, and they have their first meaningful kiss.

Annnd then Mayson blows up.

WHAT?!

This was so unexpected, and such a shock to me as a kid, that I spent an hour crying after the episode ended. I'd adored Mayson. I had written pseudo-fanfics about Mayson and Clark getting married and having a family. Crap, I didn't know Lois and Clark would ever get together! I didn't know that's how these shows worked! The show had always been such a tease. Clark crossing his fingers at the end of HoL and all of that. How was I supposed to know? Sniff.

Then there's Resurrection, which... I don't know. I don't mind watching it at all, but it's really depressing. You've got Clark mourning Mayson like a sad wittle puppy dog, Dan Scardino making Clark crazy jealous and even MORE sad, Lois thinking Dan is cute and sexy and STAB STAB STAB way to throw Clark under a semi, Lolo. Plus the episode begins with rain, and I don't know if you've ever noticed this, but it did not rain very often on Lois & Clark. Rain = depressing.

But seriously, why is Resurrection so much more depressing to me than, say, Barbarians at the Planet... in which Clark pours out his heart, Lois rejects him, Lex gets all tyrannical, the Daily Planet BLOWS UP, Perry retires, Jack is sent to jail, and Lois accepts Lex's proposal? Those things are ALL worse than any of the events in Resurrection but dammit if I don't think BATP is just spiffy and Resurrection makes me want to throw a shoe.

Maybe it's Stanley Gables. Maybe his gross virusy shoulder does the ruining. Yes, I will blame Stanley THIS time.

And I realized for the first time, while watching Resurrection, that the music they use during the "round up all the bad guys" scene at the end is the music that they used during the "last season on Lois & Clark" bit before Madame Ex. Random.

(Okay I had to go into iTunes and start playing the L&C soundtrack. Ah this is... wait, Lord Nor music? Nooo. NEXT? Okay, the Main Title... that's better.)

Some other notes about these episodes:

*Carl in Travel is mentioned. Like Pete in Sports, he gets mentioned twice and then he's dead or fired.

*Jimmy has a car. I think he had one like this first season, though maybe not the same one. (Besides, season 1 Jimmy and season 2 Jimmy aren't the same Jimmy... so why should they have the same car?) I'd have to go look at both eps side by side. What happened to his motorcycle? Does he own two vehicles? No wonder the boy is broke. Ah the mysteriousness of Mr. Olsen the younger.

*In Lucky Leon, Lois acts like she has no idea how Superman was tricked into helping the terrorists. But she was a part of that whole thing! I mean she was there, she called Clark, she was tricked too. But she never owns up to it. Was she just playing dumb so she wouldn't be implicated? Is that why she does that little smile after she says "wouldn't we all" after Perry says he'd give his Elvis spoons to know how Superman was duped? LOIS! I am shocked.

*Lucky Leon gets to join Constance and Rolfe on My List. STOP ASKING PEOPLE IF THEY WANT FRUIT, YOU PSYCHO!

*Lois's reaction to Mayson's death (which I never really noticed before... maybe because the picture quality is so much better on DVD.) It's so sad! I just want to hug her. Hand to face, then she almost reaches out to touch Clark but then she doesn't because who ever knows what's appropriate in a moment like that, and that is just some fab acting on Ter's part, I must give props.

5 more episodes left of season 2, and a few of my favorites are in there. Yayyy.

"Hold the elevator!" [Nov. 27th, 2006|02:12 pm]
I finally got back into watching L&C. In the last few days, I finished The Phoenix and also watched Top Copy and Return of the Prankster.

Phoenix -- I hate to say it, since this episode is this pivotal, WAFFY, romantic fest o' fun, but I am not particularly fond of it as a whole. And every time I watch it, I still remember what I was thinking when it first aired -- L&C want to go to a Pearl Jam concert? They're too old to go to Pearl Jam concerts! At least that's what I thought when I was 14 and they were 28. Now I'm 26 and they're 28 and it still feels weird to me. Not that they're too old. Just that neither of them seem the type to go to a rock concert. A string quartet concert, sure. Maybe part of the joke is that they had no idea what they were getting into, and it was probably good Jimmy went instead. The thought of L&C going through the mosh pit is a BIT scary.

One of those things you sort of look back on after watching the whole series (and thus having a new perspective) is the "almost first date" scene. It's great because you see they're both attracted to each other. It's funny because Lois gets food poisoning. Just the first of a million crazy/bad things that will happen to them in the course of their relationship.

Top Copy -- I like the episode a lot, except for one thing that almost ruins it for me -- Rolfe. What the f is his deal? If I had a list of the 10 most annoying characters on L&C, he'd definitely be on it. Constance from IOG would be too. I'll have to get back to you on the other eight.

I like the plot, I like L&C's chemistry, Lois's continued jealousy over Mayson, Clark in black. Mmmmhmmm.

Return of the Prankster -- Although the "freezing device" concept doesn't really work for me (there are a few continuity/believability problems) I love, love, love how Lois babbles in this episode. She goes off on major tangents twice, once in front of Clark and once in front of Superman, and both times he's got this omg I love you little smile on his face and you just want him to start making out with her right there. Come on, you guys. Stop with this "almost-dating" nonsense and start pouncing.

I also love Bronson Pinchot and think this is some of his best work.

And I know I've seen it 2582958 times, but this last time watching it, I FINALLY got that Griffin's father is emotionally abusive to Kyle, and that's why Kyle is that way to Victor. In the scene where the keys fall in the paint, I always thought both Kyle and Mr. Griffin were saying "You idiot!" to Victor, but no... Mr. Griffin's saying it to Kyle, while Kyle says it to Victor. Interesting dynamic there. It won't be the last time we see a screwed-up child with bad parental relations becoming a villain on this show.

Next up -- Lucky Leon. KISSING YAY.

Who do you love? [Oct. 7th, 2006|06:39 am]
[music |The Phoenix]

It's been a week since I posted, and I've watched half a dozen episodes since then, so I'll try to get caught up with my thoughts.

That Old Gang of Mine--

Man, Clark does a lot of eyerolling!

Just thought I'd mention that. ;)

SO... naturally this is an essential episode because Lois actually admits that she feels something "more" for Clark. First she mumbles something about this to Perry... then she tries to express how she's feeling to Clark, who falls asleep. Doy.

I don't know which is more heart-wrenching... Lois's sadness over Clark's "death" or Clark's sadness at his inability to be there for her, as Clark, this time. She takes it very hard, which she would probably do even if she didn't love him, because heck they'd been partners for over a year. Still. Sometimes I wonder if that's why she didn't even call for help when she and the professor were being buried in the cement. Was she thinking Well, Clark's dead, life sucks now, screw this? Maybe, maybe not. There are other episodes where she's in life-or-death situations and doesn't call for help, so it could just be another one of those moments.

Hug, big hug. Lots of touching. I love how she changes into his jacket before they go to the DP at the end. Makes me giggle.

A Bolt From The Blue--

So Lois is mad because she learns Superman has lied to her (well, he basically omits the truth, but it pisses her off anyway) and she tells him off for it. It's one of the first times she's ever been angry with him (hurt, yes... disappointed, yes... but not actually angry) and it mirrors Lois's anger toward Clark in the season 1 episode The Foundling... basically the same issue... he lies to her, and she knows it, and she's hurt because she wouldn't expect that of him, him being a Kansas farmboy and all. Now she's shocked that Superman has lied. Oh no!

Even though she still doesn't know CK=S this episode reminds me of some fourth season episodes where the two of them experience relationship/personal tension (think: Stop The Presses), only by then their relationship is so much *more* than it is now... but it's basically the same issue. Gasp, she's actually angry at Superman, here! Wow, turning point -- she no longer thinks he's perfect! And believe it or not, that's a good thing!

At the beginning of season 2, Clark came to Lois's apartment several times -- as Superman -- I guess in an attempt to spend some more time with her. By this season she was fully willing to spend time with Clark, but it was like he couldn't get enough and had to visit as Superman as well (see: the end of Wall of Sound or Church of Metropolis, or him giving her advice in the Source -- the same advice he'd basically already given as Clark). But perhaps this only further encouraged Lois's infatuation with Superman. In BATP Superman said he couldn't be with Lois, and now he's totally sending her a different message. Perhaps she was beginning to think he'd change his mind. She did sort of carry the torch for Superman until the end of season 2, even though you could see it lessening as she grew closer to Clark.

Anyway, I think the events in A Bolt From The Blue were essential because they showed Lois that Superman wasn't perfect. I think she needed that. I mean, if you look back to season one, where Superman was on this high pedestal and she didn't even want to work with Clark, there was a huge difference in the way she felt about the two different sides of him. Now, with each episode, that gap is getting smaller. Clark is becoming better and better in her eyes... Superman is becoming -- well, not WORSE by any means, but she's not falling all over him necessarily. By the time that gap gets to its smallest -- that's just about when she realizes they're the same person. Pretty cool the way they did that.

Season's Greedings--

First off, if you haven't watched this episode with the commentary, you need to. It's hilarious.

I guess all I can say about this one is THE FINAL SCENE. I love how Clark visits her. You know she's sort of hoping Superman will drop by, but when Clark does instead and she's so happy you KNOW things really have started to change in her heart. Say it with me now.... awww. And handholding, how can you not love that?

Metallo--

Noteworthy for the final scene, when Superman makes a pitch for Clark, and actually discourages Lois from being all cozy with him. He tells her she and Clark are lucky to have each other. After he leaves, Lois decided to call Clark... who ISN'T HOME. Mr. Lunkhead didn't coordinate that one as well as he should have. Oh well, we know she cares, that's what's important.

Also, Lucy gets angry and remarks that Lois doesn't have a guy who cares about her. Yes she does, Lucy, yes she does! She may not know how much, yet... but yes, someone definitely cares. Well, all in due time.

Chi of Steel--
I just love watching this one for their chemistry. The little looks here and there. Clark's total amusement with Lois's tenacity. More eyerolls.

The Eyes Have It--

Lois is jealous because of Mayson. Again. Clark would rather be with Lois but is too nice to tell Mayson to get lost... and it won't be the last time this happens. Awkwardness ensues.

REALLY sweet/semi-sad scene between Clark and his mom.

I'm getting to that point where I want Lois to know Clark's secret. He NEEDS somebody besides his parents.

The Phoenix--

Clark asks Lois out. You have to sort of wonder if maybe Lois was hoping for this, deep down, because it's not like she goes "CLARK, I told you I don't have feelings for you, remember? OMG, I'm filing a sexual harrassment suit against you RIGHT THIS SECOND!" No, she actually gets all babbly and adorable. Of course, Lois's ex WOULD pick now to come back from the dead and start stalking her. Nice timing, Lex.

I've never been sure if Lex knows, in this episode, that something is going on between Lois and Clark -- he does watch them in the DP lobby, but L&C just talk and laugh, they don't make out or anything. In the season 1 episode Pheromone, My Lovely, when Lois told Lex that there was only one man for her -- Clark -- Lex gave her this look like "And what drugs are WE on today?" By season 3, obviously, Lex knew about their relationship. But I wonder if he had any clue in The Phoenix, or if he still considered Superman his biggest threat/competition for Lois's affections. If he had known that Lois had an interest in Clark, maybe he would have tried to kill Clark or something. Who knows. There's a fanfic for ya. "Dammit, I've shot you 20 times, why won't you die?"

I LOVE that Nigel doublecrosses Lex, mainly because if you pay attention in season 1, there are several instances when Nigel says things or gives Lex these *looks* that totally suggest Nigel thinks Lex is crazy. Which he was. Is. Well, whatever.

Hey, wait a second... [Sep. 29th, 2006|11:40 pm]
[music |That Old Gang of Mine]

So I was watching Operation: Blackout last night and I think Lois might just have some short-term memory issues.

She says to Molly Flynn, and I quote: "I am not the one who dated a psycho!"

Hey, Lois?

Remember this guy?

I know it was like six months ago, but seriously!

Heh. Meanwhile I love the look on Lois's face when Molly says she wonders what it would be like to date Superman. I'm sure Lois has spent many a night wondering that very same thing! Haha... love that.

way more than partners [Sep. 27th, 2006|01:17 pm]
[music |Between The Prankster and Church of Metropolis]

Ever notice how different Jimmy was in season 2 than in season 1? I don't mean the way he looked. I mean duh, different actor. But it's like when Justin Whalin came on board as Jimmy in season 2, the writers decided to change him up a bit. He was still a photographer and copy boy, but he now was a grunge kid and rode a motorcycle. Oh yeah, and he was kind of a moron. Lois and Clark understood complex things, but Jimmy had to have everything spelled out like a little kid. This point was really driven home in The Prankster, until the end when he deduced that Mr. Griffin was in on Kyle's plan, at which point he was all "me so smart" and it was kind of adorable, but at the same time you're like "didn't he used to be smarter? Like, last year?" Sure, he also had black hair and wore vests last year, what are you gonna do?

For the record, The Prankster is easily one of my favorite episodes. Top 20 at least. LOVE Clark's eyerolls and discomfort when Lois is getting the "secret admirer" attention (before they realize it's sort of sinister) because for all Clark knows, maybe this is a legitimate admirer who's going to end up sweeping Lois off her feet. The boy does not want competition. At the same time, he's really got nothing to worry about because she's beginning to like him as more than a friend, even if she doesn't realize it herself quite yet (just give her a couple of episodes!) And his teasing with the Randall Loomis thing is so funny.

That's actually something I love... the evolution of her feelings for Clark in season 2. In episode 4, it's HIS place she goes to when she's feeling threatened (even though Perry and Alice have offered her a place to stay). In episode 5, she's raging jealous over Mayson's attention toward Clark. In episode 7, she actually admits to him that she's wondering if there's possibly "more" to their relationship, and by 9 they're holding hands. Awwwww. I love it. Love season 2 with a passion. It's just too friggin adorable.

Teri! [Sep. 22nd, 2006|07:21 pm]
Last night Teri was on the Tonight Show, so I got a tape in there for that and made sure the antenna wasn't making the channels look too horrible. Just now I told my mom that I'd adjusted the antenna, so I took her into the family room to see. "See, here's NBC, here's CBS... doesn't it look bet-- TERI!" Teri was on Entertainment Tonight. Since there was already a good tape in there I just hit record. How perfect. Not sure when I'll ever go back and watch it but still. Love me my L&C people.

Beginnings [Sep. 19th, 2006|03:40 pm]
The first time Lois & Clark aired, on September 12, 1993, I did not want to watch it. By the time the snake showed up to face off with Lex, I'd had enough. But something kept bringing me back, and by the end of the first season, I was completely hooked.

One week ago, L&C turned 13 years old. As I just turned 26, this means the show has now been a part of my life for exactly 50% of it. Half a lifetime, in fact. I've never grown weary of it. It's hard to believe that something I enjoyed when I was 13 still fascinates me today.

This will be my journal for posting L&C-related thoughts when I have them. I may choose to explicate an episode, to post my favorite quotes or screencaps, to pimp awesome L&C artwork/music videos/fanfic, or to just babble. I may go more in-depth than the average fan would like, so only friend me if you think you'll want to read deep thoughts about a TV show that ended nine years ago. If you think this is for you, then welcome!:)
